But First, Let’s Take a Selfie: The Benefits of Intra Oral Cameras

clean-teeth-cleaningNew technology at FLOSS Dental creates happier, more informed patient experiences!Selfies may be all the rage, but here at FLOSS, we’re excited about a new trend in photography: the intra oral camera. These cameras have been used in dentistry for over 25 years, but with the advancement of technology and the digital age, they are now becoming a standard in the dental practice. In my opinion, this is the single piece of dental equipment that has completely revolutionized the way we – and our patients – view dentistry.

In the old-school days of visiting the dentist, patients had to trust with blind faith that the dentist was properly diagnosing their treatment needs. Now, we can take and share photos of any existing conditions, and patients can actually see images of their teeth magnified and blown up on a computer screen! This gives us a tremendous advantage when educating patients on their dental diagnoses.

This revolutionary new technology gives patients the ability to fully evaluate their own oral health by viewing existing restorations, gingival health, and cavities that may not be seen by the naked eye. Combining X-rays with these pictures now allows a patient to be completely informed and confident about any treatment that needs to be done.

Cameras also allow the dentist to share before and after pictures of treatment performed in the office, allowing patients to see improvements in their teeth after procedures such as decay removal, amalgam replacement, crown and bridge work, gingival and periodontal treatment, and big cosmetic cases. These photos can also be used to educate and show future patients any treatments that have been completed by the dentist.

In a world where consumers require the ability to access complete information and control their own financial decisions, here at FLOSS we are excited to offer an environment where diagnosis can now be done both by the doctor and the patient, together. While it make take longer to perform an exam on a patient with these cameras, we find that our patients appreciate the time and effort that we take to help them fully understand their oral health.

I want every patient to leave my office knowing that we provided the ultimate patient experience, and that starts with transparency, education, and the latest technology. So the next time you come to our office, be prepared for your photo shoot!
